Make your own route, publish it, and let riders rate it

The short answer

In MotoBFF you build a route stop by stop with Make your own route, then tap Save the route. Publish makes it visible to riders near you in the Routes tab, and Unpublish takes it back. Riders vote Would ride it or Not great, and a route that 50 riders mark Not great comes off Routes but stays yours to ride.

Every rider has a loop they know by heart: the climb after the village, the café at the top, the way back that avoids the town. Most of those loops live in one person's head. MotoBFF lets you put yours on the map and see if other riders agree.

Make your own route

In the Routes tab, tap Make your own route. You build it stop by stop:

  1. Move the map to where you want to start and add your first stop.
  2. Move the map to the next stop and tap Add next stop. Or tap + on a place, like the café you always stop at.
  3. Keep going. MotoBFF works out the roads between each pair of stops.
  4. Turn on Round trip if you want it to bring you back to the start.

Two chips help shape it: Avoid motorways and Avoid tolls. You need at least two stops. If it can't find a road between two of them, move one a little and it tries again.

Give it a name riders will recognise, then tap Save the route. Making your own never uses a route generation.

If you'd rather start from a suggestion, use Find me a route and edit the result.

Publish it

A saved route is private. It says Only you can see it until you decide otherwise.

When you're ready, tap Publish. Riders near you can then find it in the Routes tab, with the map, the length, the riding time and its character: Cruising, Flowing, Twisty, Technical and so on. That label is worked out from the shape of the road, not chosen by you, so nobody can call a motorway Twisty.

Our advice is short: ride it first, then publish it. A route you've ridden is a route you can stand behind. You'll know about the gravel on the third hairpin and the road works by the bridge.

Changed your mind? Tap Unpublish and it's private again.

How the votes work

Riders who open a published route can answer one question: Worth riding?

  • Would ride it
  • Not great

Tap your answer again to take it back. There are no stars and no percentages. A thumb is quicker to give than a score out of five, and harder to game.

The Best rated near you list in Routes is built from those votes, so the routes riders back rise to the top.

A route comes off Routes only when 50 riders have said Not great. It's an absolute count, not a ratio, so three riders can't take down a route with four votes. You get a warning when it's halfway there. Even after it's off Routes, it stays in Your routes to ride.

Photos from the road

Ridden someone's route? Add a photo from the road. A route can hold up to 10 photos from riders, and they help the next rider decide far better than a line on a map.

Send it

Not everything needs to be public. Tap Send to send a route to a friend or to a group ride's chat, with an optional message. Or Create group ride from the route, so everyone who joins knows the plan.

Tips for a route riders will rate well

  • Name it after the road, not the day. "Sljeme via Bistra" beats "Sunday ride".
  • Start somewhere easy to find. A petrol station or a big car park, not a side street.
  • Put a stop in the middle. Riders like a route that has somewhere to stop.
  • Say what's rough. If there's a rough section, it'll show in the votes anyway. Say so in the name or a photo.
  • Check it each season. Roads change. Unpublish a route if a section is closed for long.

Questions riders ask

How do I share a motorcycle route on MotoBFF?

Save the route, then tap Publish. Riders near you can find it in the Routes tab, and Unpublish makes it private again. To send it to one person, use Send instead.

What do Would ride it and Not great mean on MotoBFF?

They're how riders rate published routes in MotoBFF. Would ride it is a thumbs up, Not great is a thumbs down, and tapping your vote again takes it back.

When does a route come off Routes in MotoBFF?

When 50 riders have voted Not great. It stays in its owner's routes and can still be ridden.

Does making my own route use a route generation?

No. Make your own route in MotoBFF never uses a route generation. Only saving a route found by Find me a route does.
