Places on MotoBFF: the stops riders recommend

Places on MotoBFF: the stops riders recommend

The short answer

Places in MotoBFF are stops recommended by riders: cafés, bars, food and places to stay that are worth pulling in at on a motorcycle. Anyone can add one with + on the map, and riders keep them current by marking them Still good or Not anymore. You can keep a place to yourself or share it on every rider's map.

A good ride needs a good stop. Somewhere you can park where you can see the bike, where nobody minds wet gear, and where the coffee is worth the detour. General map apps don't know any of that. Riders do.

What counts as a place

MotoBFF keeps the list of types short, so adding one takes seconds:

  • Coffee
  • Bars
  • Food
  • Places to stay

A place can be more than one. A bar that serves lunch and has rooms upstairs can be all three. Pick all that fit; the first one you pick sets its pin on the map.

Adding a place

Tap + on the map and Add a place.

  1. What's it called. Search by name or address.
  2. Where is it. Check the pin is on the right building.
  3. Type. Pick all that fit.
  4. Why it's worth stopping. This is the part riders read. Where to park, and how they treat riders in gear. "Big gravel car park, covered terrace, kitchen open all afternoon" tells the next rider more than "nice place".
  5. A photo, if you have one.
  6. Opening hours, if you know them. They're optional, and you can't add them later, so add them now if you can.

Before it's saved, MotoBFF checks for places already on the map nearby. If it asks Is it one of these? and one is the same place, vote on that one instead of adding a second.

Who can see it

You choose:

  • Shared: on every rider's map.
  • Just mine: only on your map. Good for your own list of stops, or a place you want to try before you recommend it.

Checking a place: Still good or Not anymore

Places change. The café gets a new owner, the kitchen stops doing food on Sundays, the terrace closes for the winter. So every shared place asks riders one question: Still worth the stop?

  • Still good
  • Not anymore

Tap your answer again to take it back. Each Still good is a vouch, and the place shows how many riders vouch for it. That's the number to look at: one vouch is a tip, ten is a fact.

Finding places

Open Places to browse by type, distance or country, and sort by Nearest, Newest or Most vouched. Filter to 3+ vouches or 10+ vouches when you only want the ones other riders back.

Places also show up where you need them:

  • On routes. A route's page lists places riders like within about 4 km of it. On your own route, tap Add to my route to make one a stop. On someone else's, Make my version with this stop copies the route with it added.
  • On the place itself. Directions takes you there, and the phone number, website and opening hours are there if the rider who added it knew them.
  • In chats. Tap Send this place to send it to a friend or to a group ride's chat. Easier than describing "the café after the second roundabout".

Tips for good places

  • Write for a rider, not a food critic. Parking, shade, whether they mind helmets on the table, if the kitchen closes early.
  • Add the photo of the car park, not only the cake.
  • Vote when you stop. It takes a second and keeps the map right for the next rider. A place with recent Still good votes is a safe bet.
  • Mark Not anymore when it changes. It's not unkind. It saves someone a wasted detour.
  • Use Just mine for places you're not sure about. Share it after a second visit.

Places pair well with group rides: put your meeting point at a place with lots of vouches and nobody gets lost. See how to host a group ride.

Questions riders ask

What are places in MotoBFF?

Places are stops recommended by riders in MotoBFF: cafés, bars, food and places to stay worth pulling in at on a motorcycle. Riders add them to the map and keep them current with Still good or Not anymore votes.

How do I add a motorcycle-friendly place in MotoBFF?

Tap + on the map and Add a place, then give its name, location, type and why it's worth stopping. You can add a photo and opening hours, and choose whether it's shared or only on your map.

What does Still good mean on a MotoBFF place?

Still good is a rider's vouch that a place is still worth the stop. Not anymore means it has changed for the worse or closed, and tapping either again takes the vote back.

Can I keep a place private in MotoBFF?

Yes. Choose Just mine when you add it, and the place only shows on your own map.
