Meeting new riders safely, and what MotoBFF never shares

Meeting new riders safely, and what MotoBFF never shares

The short answer

Meet new riders at a busy public place like a petrol station or café, check their profile and riding level, keep plans in the ride's group chat, and tell a friend where you're going. MotoBFF never shows your exact location: the server keeps a rough area of about 5 km, and other riders only see a rough distance and your country.

Riding with people you met on an app is normal now, and almost always a good experience. A few habits make it even better.

Five habits for meeting new riders

1. Meet in public. Petrol stations, cafés and car parks with people around. Never at someone's home for a first ride.

2. Read the profile. Look at their riding level, bike, rank and the rides they've done. A profile with history is a good sign.

3. Keep plans in the ride chat. Everyone in the group sees the meeting point, the time and any changes. In MotoBFF the meeting point is the chat's first message, so it never gets lost.

4. Tell someone where you're going. Send the route to a friend or family member. Good practice for any ride, solo or not.

5. Trust your gut. If something feels off, don't go. You never owe anyone a ride.

What MotoBFF shares, and what it doesn't

Being found by riders around you is the point of MotoBFF. We built it so that works without anyone knowing where you are.

What Riders near you shares: your exact position stays on your phone, the server keeps a rough area of about 5 km, other riders see a rough distance and your country
  • Your exact position stays on your phone. It's used to show rides near you, and never sent to anyone.
  • The server keeps a rough area of about 5 km. Rounded on your phone before it leaves.
  • Other riders see a rough distance and your country, like "~10 km away". Never a town, a street or a pin on the map.
  • You can hide yourself. Turn off "Show me in Riders near you" in Settings and your area is deleted straight away. It works both ways: while you're hidden, you don't see other riders either.
  • Searching is limited. Each rider can only look from a few areas a day, so nobody can work out where someone is by searching from lots of places.

Reporting and blocking

MotoBFF is for adults only. You can report or block anyone, any time, from their profile or from a chat. Reports cover dangerous riding, harassment, threats, someone who seems under 18, people who keep not showing up, and fake profiles.

Reporting a rider in MotoBFF: dangerous riding, harassment, threats, under 18, no-shows, fake profile
Report anyone from their profile or a chat.

If you'd rather not ride with someone again but nothing was wrong, a thumbs down on their profile is enough.

Group rides are safer rides

Riding in a group means someone is there if you break down, crash or get lost. The sweep rider stops when you stop. The chat has everyone's contact. For many riders, that's the best reason to ride with others.
